Thinkpad x60s with Vista - so slow.....
Just received my x60s (1.66Mhz, 1G, 7200rpm hd). Came with Vista and it is significantly slower than my xp box with similar configuration.
Out of the box, it was running 81 processes!
Just thought I drop a note to share my experience.

It's all about Thinkpad

If you do want to add a 2GB module, make sure you don't get a PC2-4200 stick, which would slow down the bus speed. Get the G. Skill 2GB PC2-5300 from Newegg.com for $225 shipped.

Vista runs fine with 2G, it's a totaly other experience than with 1G. Prices in Europe are about 50€ per gigabyte, so it should be a bit less in $, but don't know the selling prices in US. Perhaps they will rise again in the future, so I would catch one now.

You could have 2x2GB but the Intel 945 chipset can only see the first 3GB.Comage wrote:So is it confirmed that the X60 will work with 2GB sticks?
I had thought the officially supported memory capacity was 2GB (2 sticks of 1GB each). I have also heard (unverified) that 2 GB sticks are supported, but the chipset (or was it WinXP/Vista) will only utilise up to 3GB of RAM.
Which is true?
