Tool set for laptop repair ?
What tools do I need to make minor repair ?
I have phillips and flat head screwdrivers, and some hex wrenches.
In particular, I've having difficulty unscrewing a couple of screws on my T40.
The particular screws are on page l89 of the T40 manual, step 3
I belive its the M2x14, TR7 screw.

"TR7", as in a tamper-resistant Torx head? I have a couple of T41s but they have the regular Phillips-head screws there.
Besides a couple of phillips screwdrivers, one or two small slotted and maybe some tweezers, you don't need much more than that to take the system apart. The only time I need a hex wrench is if the hard drive security screw is present. Most of the system I have arrived without that screw.

Looking back at the archives it does appear that some early/specific models were delivered with those Torx screws. A quick online search yielded this:
TR7 Tamper Resistant TORX screwdriver

I checked out your TORX link, it seems TR7 just indicated TORX of size 7. Its not tamper resistant.rkawakami wrote:Looking back at the archives it does appear that some early/specific models were delivered with those Torx screws. A quick online search yielded this:

No, no, I meant the screw on the thinkpad. The manual says its TR7, and your wikipedia link said TR7 means TORX size 7rkawakami wrote:This is the description on the page:

If you read further down...
"A version known as Security TORX or Tamper Resistant TORX (often shortened by Torx TR) contains a post in the center of the head that prevents a standard TORX driver from being inserted."
A regular Torx head is T5 or T7 and so on. The secure version appears to be called TRn.
edit: Does your Torx head screw in fact have a "post" in the center? If so, then it's a tamper-resistant version. If not, then a regular T7 screwdriver should work.

Your right, it is a security TORX.
Drat, I just ordered
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/D ... mber=93916
Oh well, any chance of it being hollow ?
Else, for something like http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... 0009U6ABE/
What handle should I get ?
