ram help pls
ram help pls
ok, i hopefully my 2x pny 1gb pc2700 ram arriving tomoro. 1 stick is for my brothers laptop so initially i will be adding just 1gb to my x31, which currently has about 768 (512 and 256), what i want to know is which slots do i install in, as i have checked my system using everest home, and it shows slot 1 is running the 256 pc 2700 ram and slot 2 has the 512 pc2100, my x31 is the 2672 1.5mzh model. i assumed that you needed to install the largest ram in slot 1 but how comes mine is installed like this? i only got this laptop from ebay a month ago. i am assuming that because the speeds of the ram currently dont match and so they put the pc2700 in slot1. would it be best if i just took out the 512 and put the new 1gb in slot 1 and the 256 in slot 2, thus having both ram with pc2700. i initially hoped to have 1.5gb, would there be much difference if i choose mixed 1.5gb over paired 1.256 gb ram. if i stuck to 1.5 would i be right in using 1gb in slot1 and leaving 512 in slot 2. any suggest on how i do this, ps i am tempted to try it with the 2 sticks of 1gb ram to see whats like before giving one back. many thanks

There is no restriction on adding a memory with more capacity in one slot or with less capacity in the other.
