Accumulator compatibility (4/6cell)?

#1 Post by Behemot » Sat Aug 29, 2020 5:09 am

I've noticed that I have couple accumulators which physically fit T61/R61, but do not work. So I checked further and some sources claim compatibility under the same PN.

Than I noticed those which do not work are either marked 14.4 V (4cell), or "10.8V/14.4V" (this particular piece is 42T5229 which should work in T61 so maybe it's just underchargerd and locked). Upon some searching, got tragically low information, including thinkwiki which is useless for this, however, it seems that the T400/R400 did accept both voltages, as maybe an effort for wider accu selection?

So do I deduct correctly, that T/R400 accepts both, but T/R61 only the 10.8V ones (3/6/9cell)? They see them but blink orrange fast and do not charge. They may be dead ofc, but I somehow do not think that ALL of them are bad when most of the 10.8V ones still recharge (with the exception of the 42T4229), so I think it's more about incompatibility.

AFAIK, apart from the 14.1" widescreen T61/R61 and T400/T500, all other batteries for T60/T61/R60/R61/T400/R400/T500/R500/W500 fit and work in all of them, regardless of voltage.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
But I actually prefer Murphy's from Cork!

So the 14.1" wide is the only one which does not work? Challenge accepted

R61 14.1" wide - same behaviour. Looks like I don't have any more 15.4" ones, all the T/R61s are 14.1".

And R60's have totally different accu so no joy there either. darn :D

It seems like your data is wrong.

The batteries are the same for T60 (all), R60 (all), T61 (4:3 14" and 15.4"), R61 (4:3 and 15.4") and T500. All these systems had only 6-cell and 9-cell configurations, which are in chains of 3 cells, each cell is 3.6V, so the total would be 10.8V.

T61/R61 (14" widescreen) and T400/R400 had different batteries. These could come in 4-cell (14.4V) or 6-cell/9-cell (10.8V) configurations. There was also a rare and short-lived 7-cell variant.

In the end it does appear that the 14.1" T61 accepts both 4 and 6/9cell ones. Two of the 4cell accus do work, so most likely the first two I've tested are busted, but the rest is OK.

The 9cell one is orgasmic, it states over 6,5 hours when idling with T9300 :o
