Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
https://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.p ... 33e5949ec9
Link to my another thread where it went off on a tangent, stopped receiving replies, and had different title.
Wandering if it's possible to setup two external displays as per a comment in above thread where it's mentioned you can setup a T61 so that its own display turns off when docked and if so how to do that?
Edit: Windows 10*

Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
playing around in the display setting i was able to acomplish the title.
The DVI connected display now has red pixels all over it? Is there a way to fix this?
I tried disconnection laptop from dock and restarting it. After re-docking DVI display still shows red pixels all across it.
EDIT: DVI cable just got jiggled slightly out place, srry. Oopsie poopsies

Does your T61 have a dGPU?
Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
You can even use the internal display if you connect one of the externals via wavlink like usb3 -> (VGA/DVI or HDMI up to 1080p). Just don't play videos on it as screen Hz will be lower than 60 and the CPU will take heavy hit anyway. Its quite usable for general use especially if put through renesas expresscard to usb3 adapter.babysheegoth wrote: ↑Thu Jan 25, 2024 10:36 amhttps://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.p ... 33e5949ec9

Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
Next to my serial number it says 07/08?
Is there a reason the VGA connected monitor would be slower to display once the laptop is docked?
The case right now is the DVI connected monitor displays immediately as soon as I dock the laptop, however the VGC connected one takes several minutes before it shows a display. If I go into display settings and manually for example make it so VGC connection is only active display it will immediately work?

07/08 on a T61 means: Year 2007 / month 08 (August)

You should check your MTM tag, with a 7 digit code (like 2647-A92). Is the one with the bar code under your laptop. Up here in the forum banner you have a link to an MTM reader.babysheegoth wrote: ↑Wed Feb 07, 2024 1:34 pmNext to my serial number it says 07/08?

Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
That's just the graphics that's built into the GM965 chipset. dGPU stands for "discrete GPU" which means it's a separate chip from the chipset or processor. The T61 may have an nVidia Quadro NVS 140M or Quadro FX 570M discrete GPU. They're more capable than the Intel X3100.

Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
Your image is doesn't display?
I already typed a serial into mtm. How do I determine gpu from that?
Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
What is the 7-digit TYPE number prior to the date?
It is not the serial number, it is a model number.
Eg. 2082-8ZU (my T500)
Unless it ends in -CTO you can enter the 7 digit TYPE number including the - into the MTM and it will return the original specs of your case including the GPU type.
The other way is to determine it in software such as Windows Device Manager under Display Adapters or physical hardware inspection, remove the keyboard and look at the heatsink, see which variant it is.

Why don't you give us the TYPE xxxx-yyy from your label, instead of all this dilly-dallying?

Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
MTM says:
ThinkPad T61 7659-A34 Based on 7659-XAU: T7300(2GHz), 2GB RAM, 120GB 5400rpm HD, 14.1in 1440x900 LCD, Intel X3100, CDRW/DVDRW, 802.11abg wireless, Bluetooth, Modem, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav, Secure chip, 6c Li-Ion, WinXP Pro
Instead of answering a few times with a bland, non-informative question: Intel X3100? and nothing else,
you could have entered that Intel X3100 into e.g. Google and found out what Intel X3100 means.
This is not Kindergarten here!

Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
This thread has been going on for over a week. I forget what I have and haven't posted. Apparently I typed Intel X3100 and forgot I had done that above already. Some one above even explained what it was and I forgot they had posted that that's the graphics that's built into the GM965 chipsetRealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 1:47 amMTM says:

That is the original whole reason for continuing to ask and I still don't know what that even means.Does your T61 have a dGPU?
Can someone elaborate if I have a dGPU and what relevance that is if i do or don't?
Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
Your machine does not have a dgpu.
Dgpu is Nvidia.
Igpu is Intel X3100.
I think the relevance of dgpu is in regard to troubleshooting your display issues, even though you already figured it out and fixed it and posted such. T61’s Nvidia dgpus are notorious for failing, it was a fault of Nvidia’s. Sometimes graphical faults can be explained by a failing dgpu but in the T61’s case the failure usually just totally kills the laptop. Since you don’t have the dgpu you have a more desirable model as that removes that particular point of failure.

VGA connected monitor being slow to display after docking laptop is nothing to do with the chip itself i'm assuming.TPFanatic wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 10:23 amYour machine does not have a dgpu.

The monitor could be responsible for that behavior.
How slow are we talking about here?

Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
Several minutes.
However, if i go into display settings and manually setup said lagging monitor as main display it will start displaying on the dot as soon as I do setup it up as main display.
Re: Two external displays with T61 and docking station?
I just joined this forum so I'm way late to respond.
An option might be to try a connector from StarTach. (startach.com) https://www.startech.com
I actually use this for a Macbook Pro that supports on 1 monitor. With the adapter, I'm able to connect two 32" 4K monitors. Works great.
When I purchased it about year ago, it was around $100.00. A year later the price may gone down. The nice thing is, that it also comes with software at updates.
Good luck
