I also like the matt finish on the power/volume/Access IBM button, much easier to keep clean

What´s the difference between different FRU´s. For example I´ve a Made in China keyboard which FRU starts with 08 (dont have the complete FRU). Also bought a used Thai keyboard FRU 08K5015
some thai keyboard keys make a funny sound when the key is pressed up/down. I was wondering if I could make IBM to send me a new kyboard, and in case they request the old one send the thai keyboard.

Then I'll call tomorrow to ask for a keyboard replacement. The tactile feel on the Thai keyboard is good, I feel the keys more stiff compared to my Made in China keyboard. Some keys on the Thai keyboard makes a squeaky sound. And the TAB key should be pressed on the right side of it to accept input, contrary to the original keyboard my laptop came with.

I just called but told me I had to send the whole laptop to service in Guadalajara city. I asked the rep, I knew that they just send the replacement part to the consumer, but he denied it
Do you think there'll be a way of getting the keyboard without sending the laptop, I hate to do that. It's simply a keyboard...
I'm seeing a dramatic difference in cultures, where in the US the consumer is a DIY, in Central-South America we need to be baby-sitted to replace such a simple thing as a keyboard

hmm I should really remember to call IBM/Lenovo about my keyboard. I have the accidental protection warranty through August 07 on my T42 so I should be covered still. Aside from being grossly worn down considering it was replaced.. I think February 2005, the spacebar key is a bit touchy.. can't push anywhere on the bar to use it.
I don't know exactly which model I have right now, but I hope they've stopped selling it. After like a month of use the common keys were all shiney.. and it wasn't even my primary computer then. My previous keyboard still looked new when it had to be replaced because a key stopped working. I wish I could have just repaired that one. I miss the glossy bar on the keyboard too :'(

The keyboard as well as the wrist rest is a CRU or customer replacable unit which means IBM / lenovo will just send you the part along with an instruction sheet and the customer replaces it. In the past (at least a year ago) both the old keyboard or wrist rest had to be sent back to IBM to complete the warranty transaction, I think due to cost of shipping, they don't ask for it back anymore.

Yes, I know those warranty politics, however in my country the Warranty procedures are very different. They treat consumer like dumbs who they think we cannot replace a CRU by ourselves.chan_man wrote:The keyboard as well as the wrist rest is a CRU or customer replacable unit which means IBM / lenovo will just send you the part along with an instruction sheet and the customer replaces it. This sucks. The procedure for making a warranty request should be equal in all the countries. I should call them and rant about that..

You can check by clicking on the Warranty status link on the right side of the following page: Parts lookupcLin wrote:What's the standard warranty coverage for IBM/Lenovo? I bought a T43 last June and the keyboard feels like it is going to die on me soon (I use the laptop, ALOT). Am I covered or did I have to get an extended warranty?
FYI, warranty periods are usually 1 year or 3 years. Some ThinkPads purchased at discount from resellers have no warranty. An extended warranty can be added to the original warranty.

I received my replacement keyboard from Lenovo Canada the next day after calling, such fast service!
originally I had 13N9957 ALPS keyboard shipped with my system, Lenovo Canada sent me a NMB keyboard 39T0519, but can't tell that much of a difference... maybe the feedback on the keyboard is a bit tighter, and possibly less click...
maybe I'm just not sensitive enough to my keyboard to know the difference.
to be honest, up until my keyboard was broken, I didn't mind the ALPS...
