I've just learned that the new P1 Gen 7 will come with LPDDR5x LPCAMM2 modules for up to 64GB of RAM.
I can't help to think Lenovo knows the EU is going to pass legislation soon on serviceable electronics and they are starting to integrate that requirement into new designs.
Given that laptops are battery-powered devices, and that there is an option now for modular LPDDR memory, there is really not much reason to use regular DDR5 memory other than price. So I guess, in the future, high-end devices will come with LPCAMM modules and low end devices with regular SO-DIMMs.
At any rate, it's really good news for us Thinkpad aficionados to know that you no longer need to hunt for specific motherboards just to get more RAM. This is something that has bothered me since I switched to the X series.

For those of us who have no idea about LPCAMM2, here is some documentation.
Just looking at them, I do NOT agree that bigger is better!
