Welcome back, lol. I had to look, I apparently joined when I was 16, now I'm nearly double that. Been a long time with many on and off parts. But it's been a good time, Thinkpad community is a solid bundle of people.
My main isn't a Thinkpad, but I still love tinkering with old Thinkpads. My collection definitely hasn't shrunk, that's for sure.

Hand-on-heart Thinkpad addict with no end to the madness in sight.

This is my second or third account on this site.
A fun exercise inspired by this thread, I tried to find the first ThinkPad I purchased, in email. But that email address only goes back to 2008. I found in 2008, a T42p purchased for $535 USD. From memory, that was my third or fourth ThinkPad laptop, replacing a couple of bad solder GPU T41's that I had. I think I originally found this site because of the repair services that people ran where they would bake the motherboard in the oven and hope it worked again.
So I have been learning from this forum since my early 20's, and I'm now in the latter half of a career in the tech industry.
A lot of change in 20 years.

Re: I was 25 when I joined here...
So was I.
I've never given up a ThinkPad that I've purchased for daily use. Even my cranky old T61p - the first one I bought new back in 2007 - is still with me, as is the first one I bought - an A22m off-lease at the end of 2004 for $550. I had the option to spec/buy myself a new T14 G6 but I skipped in favor of some peers getting one and still use my T480 FrankenPad. That keyboard is just too hard to give up.
I have come to the conclusion in the last few years that I have too many ThinkPads.

Re: I was 25 when I joined here...
I remember the first I got. I believe it was a T40, without the options I wanted - higher res screen, and biometrics. I shipped it back and got a T40s, which I soon drove 3 hours to RI to trade it for an X60s. I forget the guy's name but he was from here.unix_joe wrote: ↑Sat Aug 09, 2025 9:56 pmThis is my second or third account on this site.

Re: I was 25 when I joined here...
I joined (on my first account) when I was 18. Now I'm 33
I noticed even at 33 now my vision for ultra fine soldering isn't as good as it once was, I always have to remove my glasses and really torque my eye muscles (no wonder why RBS clocked out for doing that, it's getting pretty awful the older I get). And it's going to get a whole lot worse from here on out
