Wireless network encryption enable? put in password how?
okay so I at college in my friend's dorm. he has encryption enabled on his wireless. acess connections recognizes it as enabled but my friend is giving me his password how do i put it in. access connections just says can't connect
Launch AC
Manage location profiles
Create a new location profile
Under the wireless tab, click 'edit wireless LAN settings' and you'll be asked to select which wireless security type your mate's router is using.
Then click next and you'll see the option for inputing the password. Make sure you set the right kind of 'access point encryption' (i.e., WPA-SPK or whatever he/she's using).

Okay so I am back in my friend's building. He is a regular college student. Will he know what kind of wireless he has? I mean if is using the standard linksys b router w would it fall under WEp static key, IEEe authentication, EAP Cisco Leap or the other one, wi fi protected key,?
In experimenting I picked the last option under advance wireless setting and said let windows handle it. THis so far is the only option that asks for the network key and everything which is what I want. However if windows handles it doesn't that defeat the purpose of Access Connections. Anyways I ask all these questions because I am pretty sure I know more than he does. He has to come in and type the password (we are in a dorm and he doesn't want anyone having his password) IBM seems to be the only program that forces you to go through this whole thing to get on to someone's network with a password?
Is there anyway I can prevent this so I can just type passwords in when encryption is enabled?

Not sure how it works if you let Windows handle it, but I generally use AC. You'll basically have to figure out what kind of encryption he's running on that router. You could run an ethernet cable right to it and check it out. Check out the router's manual for how to do that. That will allow you to see how the router is set up, and then you can set AC to 'talk' to the router using the correct encryption protocols and passwords.
