I hope I'm mising something, because I can't beleive anyone would actually design software that behaves this way. I bought a T22, and a little later, an IBM Portable 40GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive with Rapid Restore Ultra. I created a base back up and scheduled an incremental for every Saturday night, and slept well beleiving I was protected. When the T22 got stolen, I thought 'no problem, I've got all my data backed up.'
Now I can't make a restore work. I've tried every method described in the documentation. I even bought a vintage T22 on eBay because IBM told me it was a compatibility issue. (Other than that, they simply say "We don't support that anymore.") RRU software insists on making a backup during installation, and then doesn't recognize the backups from the old machine on the USB HD. Wouldn't this be the case with a HD failure? Do restores only work to the HD from where the backup was made?!? I can see the files with Windows Explorer, so I know they're there.
Help?

You probably tried this already, but just in case.......
Boot up from a Recovery Media CD created with the same version of Rescue and Recovery that you had. Choose to restore backup.
Alternatively, use the Product Recovery Disc set to reinstall the factory software, then boot up into Rescue and Recovery to restore your backup.
I have a T42, so the comments I made above apply to the version of Rescue and Recovery that I have. Hopefully the T22 is similar.

I beleive that "Rapid Restore Ultra" operates differently than does "Rescue and Recovery". Perhaps T22's operate differently than T4*s.
a) RRU didn't make any recovery CD when installed
b) The T22 doesn't give the option of booting from the USB HD through F12 or boot sequence modification (not sure it's bootable anyway)
c) I don't have the factory recovery CD, and IBM/Lenovo doesn't supply them anymore (this particular unit came witn Win2000 Pro installed. It now has WinXP with the latest BIOS and everything else downloadable.)
Thanks anyway. Any other suggestions out there?

FTR, I have Rescue and Recovery with Rapid Restore Ultra 4.0. On mine, if I go to Start > All Programs > Access IBM, I see the option to Create Rescue Media. I also have the option there to Create Recovery Discs. If you have the option there to Create Rescue Media, you should be able to boot from that CD. Perhaps as you say, the T22 does not offer that option.
Here are the software and driver download pages (4) for the T22.
Downloads and drivers
Here is the Access IBM online users guide. This should have information on how to use Rescue and Recovery on your T22. In fact you may have it already on your T22.
