I'm not familiar with the card -- is it a PCI card that gets installed, or a removable PCMCIA card (similar to one from 3COM I already own)? And would it be compatible with earlier T-series like T21 or T30 models?

It's the IBM Integrated Bluetooth with 56K Modem (BMDC) MiniPCI card. Compatible with T40/41/R50/51/X40.
