W541 FrankenPad not booting, lost, please help (updated) *WARNING: PICS*)

#1 Post by Lucretia » Wed Dec 08, 2021 3:11 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to piece together the bits required for a W541. I just got a fan with the 6-pin connector and the wider heat sink areas for the K2100M on the apparently working board I bought.

It turns on when the PSU is connected (apparently a BIOS setting), fan starts and turns off, apparently correct as it turns back on after it's heated up. At least the fan works. Does this mean the CPU works?

I get nothing on screen, had to buy a new EDP cable as the one it came with was snapped in two. The EDP was bought as "tested." They also said the LCD worked, it's an innolux n156hge-ea2 rev.c1 with a W541 bezel.

I get no beeps from the speakers. LCD is black.

Nothing is output to either VGA nor DP/Thunderbolt (DP cable), with or without the LCD attached.

I've sprayed contact cleaner on the EDP cable connectors, the lcd connector, the EDP connector on the motherboard, the ram slots and the ram. Same issue.

The thing is, I get exactly the same from a different board/fan which was bought in a lot as "untested," was bought cheap and for any other bits, i.e. chassis. This one has a K1100M GPU.

I'm also getting no power through any USB port on the K2100M board.

I'm at a loss. I could do with someone nearby who can test some things for me.

Any advice?

Is your charger powerful enough?
20V/90W won't do.
W541 needs minimum 20V/135W, with K2100M GPU even 20V/170W.

The charger is 45N0558, doesn't look like a fake, but it was cheap from fb marketplace.

The people who supplied the motherboard and CPU are adamant they work.

I've checked the charger and it is giving 20V, don't know about Ampere's yet though.

From the pictures, the charger is 170W and seems OK.
Things to check/try:
- speakers connected (if not OK, try external speaker/headphone)
- boot with all HDD/SSD/CD/DVD/wifi-card removed
- remove all RAM, at boot it should beep 1-3-3-1 if any life left in mobo
- another CPU
- swapping keyboards
- disconnect LCD-cable from mobo, connect external monitor

Like I've said already, they are connected and I've tried headphones.

There is no HDD/DVD and the wifi card is removed.

Again, already said I've tried with and without ram.

There isn't one.

Already said, I get nothing with or without the LCD.
