I just got a T42 2373-6ZU and no high-speed USB 2.0??? I would have thought they would be?
Is there a high speed card or anything?
Thanks

The USB ports should be 2.0; if you do a search of the Forums, you will find similar problems where the ports act like USB 1.1s and not 2.0s; I remember having this problem awhile back on a, now defunct, HP laptop...But I don't remember how I fixed it.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

That's a bummer, I have only plugged in my Lexar jumpdrive Sport. Maybe it could be that device, but it works as high-speed on my compaq desktop.
If anyone knows the fix let me know. I am wondering if it is a USB root hub driver or somethiing like that. Could it be a bios setting? I think the previous owner reinstalled xp before I bought it and may not have gotten all of the stuff correct.
Hope someone can help, thanks for the reply

Reinstalling the drivers is the first thing I would checkreltor wrote:That's a bummer, I have only plugged in my Lexar jumpdrive Sport. Maybe it could be that device, but it works as high-speed on my compaq desktop.

Well, I have plugged in a jumpdrive, explained above. And clicked on the balloon, the message says there are no high speed usb 2.0 root hub controllers installed.davidspalding wrote:How have you determined that you *don't* have USB 2.0 ports?
I am sending this thing back to IBM under warranty, I can't discern whether this issues is hardware, software or something else??. I am also having the bluetooth finding the USB device problem that others are having. IBM warranty support was very helpful, and created a work order for my item. I believe they will also remount the harddrive, which might fix a lot since I don't have recovery, xp or any other disks. I will follow up after I get it back and let you know how it worked out.

This has been covered several times before, a search might find some postings with more detail.
There's a good chance all you need to do is remove and reinstall the USB drivers. You can do this from Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager.
This resolved the issue (slow transfers to a USB memory device) on my T42P.

This may well be the problem, The previous owner removed the recovery partition and microsoft won't let me update. I am hoping to get it back with a servicable oem copy of xp and the recovery partition returned. I know it eats up disk space, but It has saved me more than once on other computers. I am stuck dead in the water unless I would buy a new clean copy of xp prof $$$, and I still might have hardware problems.dr_st wrote:Do you have XP SP1 or above? It is needed for USB 2.0 functionality. Do you have any exclamation marks next to USB related devices in your device manager?
Will the new operating system be authenticated through microsoft and have sp2 intalled? The Certificate sticker on the bottom of my laptop is not the same # as the copy of xp installed.
I am wondering if IBM will put a new OEM sticker with the proper activation code over the old one?

USB ports not running at 2.0 speed
This seems to be a common problem -- check this thread: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=17250
I had this problem with my T40. Apparently, some power-hungry USB devices can fry your motherboard, leaving it unable to connect reliably at 2.0 speed -- at that point, you need a new motherboard.
