Dual Core Process Question - L vs T
I cannot find on any sites (Intel or any technology sites) the difference between the low voltage processor and the standard. The only difference I see is the power consumption - so why choose the T version if the L version has the same specs (Speed, buss)?
thanks
thanks
If you compare L2400 vs. T2400 I would definitely go for L2400.
However, the maximum clock speed of "Napa" L CPU's is 1.66Ghz whereas the maximum for T is upto 2.16 Ghz. So, T has more varieties than L.
L only comes in two flavours: L2300 and L2400
FYI By Q3, 2006, T will go upto 2.33Ghz (T2700) whereas L will go upto 1.83Ghz.

At the same clock speed, a regular T-Core Duo and L-Core Duo will have the exact same performance. Due to the higher voltages, T-series can clock higher and thus attain higher performance. But higher voltages = more power consumption & more heat.
Have used just about every ThinkPad since the T42 days...

Re: So...
It would be about the same difference you would see in a 1.6 and 1.8 or 1.7 & 2.0. Overall the second core doesn't increase actual performance a whole lot, because most of the software you use is coded for single threads only. Multi-threaded apps are few & far between, esp for normal uses, so the performance increase you experience will most likely be in how fluidly Windows responds.dbeck83 wrote:Is a L 1.66 A LOT slower than a T 1.83?

Re: So...
About 8% in the most ideal situation. In other words, you won't notice the difference.dbeck83 wrote:Is a L 1.66 A LOT slower than a T 1.83?

I would just get a T chip and undervolt it with RMClock...
then you get higher clock speeds and longer battery life
