battery question
battery question
I just got my x60 and let me say, it's awesome.
I have a stupid question about charging the battery. If the battery is at 100%, do I need to unplug it from the charger? Would I "kill" the battery if I recharge it when it's at 70% (arbitrary number)?

1) You can leave the machine plugged in when the battery is at 100%. There will be no problem.
2) You can start recharging the battery whenever you want. It will not cause a problem. [incorrect info about deep cycling batteries removed]

I run my battery down to around 15% about once a month. Have been doing this for years and as a result I have experienced very long battery life, both in terms of how long it runs on the battery after charging and also the total lifetime of the battery. Before I started this routine I would get from 10-12months battery life. Now using the described routine I get 16-18 months battery life.
Enjoy your new ThinkPad

Absolutely NEVER "deep charge" a lithium battery. That will do far more harm than good. Also, only let the battery run down to a low level if you are going to store it. Otherwise, you will only reduce overall longevity. Lithium batteries like to be kept at a high level of charge when in use.
-- My Tech Toys: PalmOne Tungsten T5, of course my PC (2.2ghz - 400Mhz FSB, 1GB DDR, Geforce FX 5200 -- yes, i know a i know i have a pathetic video card), and an IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T61 (2.0 Ghz - 800Mhz FSB, 1GB DDR2)
Is it OK if I "deep six" my old dead batteries?foodle wrote:Oops, you're absolutely right. Ignore what I said above about deep cycling.medevilenemy wrote:Absolutely NEVER "deep charge" a lithium battery.
