x60/x60s in san francisco?
hi,
i'm scheduled for a business trip to sf soon and would be looking for an x60/x60s with the 100gb 7200rpm hdd (and at least 1gb of ram).
anyone know if there is a good place to start looking for it in san francisco?

I don't know of a place in San Francisco proper for the X60. Last year I tried to find a T43 to look at, but couldn't after calls to numerous resellers. Office Depot then began stocking ThinkPads, but I don't think they stock the X60.
If you can get down to Stanford (30 miles south by car or train) try their bookstore. Last time I was there they had an X4x on display but their website shows the X60.

Even closer (and possibly better!
*However*, note that this is getting a bit too close to a discussion about educational pricing. I do not remember the terms of stanford's bookstore when it comes to selling products to non-student customers; I am, however, fairly sure that the TSW *will* sell to non-student customers, just without the student/faculty/staff discount.
I would also like to note that the is a "Reseller Locater" on IBM/Lenovo's page that you can use to find the closest reseller via zip code. Let me see if I can find the link to it then post back.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

It's been a few years since I bought a machine there, but I believe that the Stanford Bookstore will not sell a machine to someone not affiliated with the university (e.g. student, faculty, staff). They may have changed their policy, so I'd suggest calling them up if you plan to purchase there. They do usually have a good number of machines out for demo, so it's a nice place to take a look at the machines.

there are two good "used" X60's on the marketplace, here..ranix wrote:tnx everybody... these are great starting points!
great to know there's such big community support for thinkpad
also, even though everyone forgets that I TOO sell new thinkpads, even now, from time to time, i DO and getting one to san francisco is relatively easy when there is some time to arrange things..
also to be considered is that there WILL BE an 8.25~ % sales tax on anything you pick up in california unless it is sent from out of state to your hotel..
i could probably get stanford bookstore to sell me a thinkpad (since i have, even now, some connections there) but the sales tax issue does not go away for anyone..
