does my T60 has 512M video memory??
does my T60 has 512M video memory??
recently bought T60 2007 -72n from BU store. I just noticed that under windows it reports that I have 512 M video memory... Is that true????? well, I have not used new lappy for quite some time, my previouse lappy was a Celeron 500 + + 512M RAM + 12.1" thinkpad. therefore, you can imagin why I am suspiciouse about the video memory can be so large today..
Is there any one has the same configuratoin? My video card seems to be ATI X1400

No, it has exactly the same amount of *physical* VRAM as the specs said it did when you purchased it.
What you are seeing is the result of the ATI HyperMemory process that comes down with their more recent drivers and a BIOS update. It uses part of the system memory, optimizes it and prioritizes access to it, to boost the performance of the discrete video card in addition to the on-board VRAM on the card itself. This simply makes Windows "see" 512MB for dedicated VRAM on the card and operate accordingly.
HTH

thanks
oh.. is there any way to get rid of this intrusion of memory at high addresses ? Well, the reason I asked for this is that if I have oracle running whose PGA is supposed to take the high address in the RAM, this might be problemetic .

Yup, that is all it does. It reserves and optimizes parts of memory for faster access by the GPU *should* the GPU require such. If not, i.e. you aren't playing an intensive game or rendering a 3D scen, then there really is not performance hit.
