X60 won't go into standby
X60 won't go into standby
My X60, for some reason unknown to me, has suddenly decided that it will not go into standby when I press Fn and F4 Sleep (or just F4 Sleep), or even when Standby is selected from the XP Start/ Turn Off Computer/Standby, and once would not even turn off with Shutdown - had to hold down the power button. I've checked the Power Management setting, etc. and it should go into Standby when Sleep is pressed. I'm not using the battery here, only mains supply.
Puzzled,
Robert

Most likely a driver or software update that you applied recently. I had the same thing happen to my wife's T42. Turned out it was an Epson C60 printer driver. If you know when Standby was working OK, you could use Windows System Restore to fix it. That is what I did with my wife's T42. I did not know what was causing her problem as I had applied a number of updates since when I knew Standby had worked. After I used System Restore, I started applying the updates one by one, checking if Standby would work. That is how I found out the printer driver was the culprit. Turns out that Epson had a newer driver on their website that did not cause a problem with Standby, so I installed it instead.

My R60 suffered from comparable problems. Since I updated the ThinkVantage software last saturday it took 30seconds instead of 3 to go into standby. To get it out of standby I only have to push the Fn-button. (haven't noticed this before, maybe it's normal behaviour)
Reconnecting to WLAN takes longer.
I tried a system restore, but that failed. At first it went into standby after starting System Restore. Later it rebooted as expected, but no success. My WinXP is Dutch, but the message was something like "System Restore is not done/finished" I can try again and again with other restore points but no success. At some point it wouldn't go into standby when I closed the laptop or pushed Fn-F4.
I removed the Access Connection manager because that had not been working for quite some time. And since I don't use it I didn't bother solving that. Now it looks like it is working...
Closing the laptop gives me a comforting *beep* within 2 seconds now when I close it... odd. Solved it mysteriously while typing this post. Tnx!

No error messages from Windows. And I don't do Restore Points - well not up to now! It's a bit annoying having to either leave the laptop running, or close it down. But at least it does work.
Thanks,
Robert

This also happened on my x60s. I found the problem to be a "delay.exe" placed in my startup. I did: run, msconfig, removed it and the computer misteriously went into stand by immediately as well as other programs (excel, word) which were slow on start up, again fired up as normal.
I don't know if this solution to the problem is unique, however, it solved my problems. I haven't got a clue though, why/which program placed a "delay.exe" to start up ?!
Cheers

Sorry to hear this. That little bugger delay.exe solved so many "slow-related" problems on my x60s. It again went into sleep mode instantly, so did the programs fire up. It was odd, when I clicked on an URL, it took about 5-6 sec, then the program fired up. Otherwise, it takes only an instant and you see the HDD spinning and program initializing.
i hope for the best and hope you'll fix it soon.
