UltraBase X6 problem
UltraBase X6 problem
Hi, guys:
Currently when I dock my x60s into my Ultrabase, I have a 50% chance of actually getting it to register my USB ports. The other 50% only the monitor and DVD drive register--when this happens, only the green light on the left lights up instead of the green light and the red "do not eject now" light. I think it's some sort of seating problem.
Essentially the problem is that when I seat the x60s into the drive, it remains in the "undocked" position, similar to as if I had already pressed the undock button already.
Does anyone have any experience with this? I appreciate the help.
Thanks,
Jon

I've had my system board replaced (the latest BIOS update killed it), and afterwards I had the same problems with the USB ports and the missing red "don't undock" light. I tried 10-20 times to get a proper docking, but nothing worked, ever.
I called support again and ordered yet another system board and a new X6. While waiting for the parts I reconnected the USB devices (keyboard, phone and a hub with 5 more devices) to the X60s directly.
I had to reboot later, and suddently got the red light on the dock. After some more fiddling, it turns out that the USB hub causes the problem. USB works whenever the hub is not connected to the X6, ans USB almost never works when it is connected. I can connect it after I docked the system successfully, though.
It is really strange that this happens now, after a system board change in the X60s, so maybe the many people who blame the X6 to be faulty really blame the wrong piece of hardware.
Hence my advice: Try to disconnect one USB device after the other from the X6, until it works stable. Possibly, if a device doesn't work properly (e.g. draws too much power), the X6 will decide not to attach the USB devices.
I'd be interested to hear if this works on your system!
Regards, Martin

Interesting, thanks for the link!
The symptoms described are 100% the ones I observe. And yet: My Ultrabase has yet another FRU (it seems a newer one than either one mentioned), and replugging the USB hub as described doesn't help.
Plus: It worked 100% before the X60s system board change.
Well, we'll see: I get another system board in the next days (besides the USB problems the current one has a faulty Ethernet connector anyway), and I'll post if the problems go away.
