new install of vista vs lenovo utility
new install of vista vs lenovo utility
hey guys. i should be receiving my x60s in the mail in a day or so. i've read other posts about this machine running slow and that people have had good success when doing a clean install of vista.
since i do not have an external cd/dvd drive im looking into alternatives. i came across the junk removal tool (blog found here: http://www.lenovoblogs.com/insidethebox/?p=63).
i wanted to know how using this utility compares to doing a clean install. would i experience a better increase in performance bydoing a clean install vs the utlity?
any input on this is most helpful.
thanks in advance ;]

I suggest to You to male a clean install...
it's much better... then... You can install
system update 3.0... to have all the most
recent drivers You need... or You can
download them from lenovo web site...
specially if You consider that drivers You really
need are: intel chipset, acpi, video, finger
and some software as hd protection...
bye...

I'm not sure about Lenovo's Vista setup, but I found with XP that I could uninstall the programs I knew I didn't want and disable the services & startup items for programs I didn't use regularly and it ran as well as any clean XP install I have used. I can't imagine Vista would be substantially different in this regard. You might at least give this a shot before re-installing from scratch.
I would defintely give the lenovo blog suggestion a try. If you deselect all the junk in the preload it should be like a clean install with a Windows retail CD plus the necessary drivers and patches. Nothing wrong with that I assume.
T40p 2373-g1g: 1.6 GHz, 1536 MB RAM, 160 GB @ 5400 rpm drive, 64 MB Video, IBM a/b/g II, CD-RW/DVD Combo II, M10 Fan, Ubuntu 8.04
that's an answer i was actaully hoping for. just because im searchign now and seeing how i'd have to get an external drive or a usb drive (dont' have one of those yet)..etc etc.s0larian wrote:I would defintely give the lenovo blog suggestion a try. maybe just doing the utility plus a regclean maybe?
i wanted to do this before i started installing all the software i need..but i also want to give it the best start as possible so it can get max performance
