x60s and Santa Rosa
x60s and Santa Rosa
Does anyone know if the X60s will be updated with the Santa Rosa chipset come May/June? Can we expect it to be as small as the X60s (i.e. 1.1") or would the Santa Rosa be an upgrade of the X60 (i.e. 1.3").
Basically I would like to buy a X60s-esque thinkpad by July. No point to wait if nothing is forthcoming.

Did you see this announcement? The T61 and R61 are coming out in May, both with Santa Rosa.sheynk wrote:santa rosa will be announced July

pianowizard thanks for the link. I actually realized that Santa Rosa would be featured in the T series, but I was wondering if it would find itself in the X series. I found no mention of this in these forums, but hoped someone would know. I am really only interested in the X series for portability's sake.
This TopSeller-Sheet lists X61 and X61s model numbers. No detailed informations, but they are certainly based on Santa Rosa.
Besides this models, the sheet shows X61T (tablets)! Cool, if they will be released together with the other models - tablet with newest technology (e.g. X3100 graphics).

Oh... when will they announce and release these models?mteddy wrote:This TopSeller-Sheet lists X61 and X61s model numbers. No detailed informations, but they are certainly based on Santa Rosa.

I'm considering the X60s or the X60 tablet, or should I wait?

I'm in the same boat as you about thinking of getting a x60. I was looking at the T60 but I need smaller. I don't like the look of the T61. so I'm thinking the x61 will be of similar. And the Santa Rosa isn't that much of a performance increase, to me at least.
Anyone know the performance difference between the 950 GM vs a x300 64mb.. I know the 950gm is onboard, just want to know if I am stepping down from my T43 if I go with the x60 video wise.

I wouldn't go counting out the x61 as poor just yet. I did see all those posts on engadget about how poor the build quality of the T60 has been, so that is concerning. But battery life should be even better then the model now that provides 6-8 hours on a 8 cell. And to me battery life, a red pointing stick, a solid keyboard, and durability is where it's at. Oh and wrap that in the lightest possible laptop that doesn't force me to carry an optical drive in the package.I'm in the same boat as you about thinking of getting a x60. Once again: current X60/X60s models (when equipped with a Core 2 processor) fully support 64-bit operation. The real limitation is the maximum 3 GB of addressable memory; this limit should be removed by Santa Rosa.
Incidentally, there is only one X61 series and X61 series listed in the topseller sheet, so I am guessing that there will not be a 13" model, probably just 12.1" widescreen.
(Edited for Core 2 clarification)

Allow me to rephrase: current X60/X60s models (when equipped with Core 2 processors) fully support 64-bit operation.
With the impending introduction of the X61/X61s models, the available X60/X60s selection is now quite limited. On the X60s side, you may still be able to find a 1702-L6U, 1702-L8U or 1702-M7U, all of which were equipped with Core 2 Duo processors.

Sorry I was not clear....pianowizard wrote:Did you see this announcement? The T61 and R61 are coming out in May, both with Santa Rosa.sheynk wrote:santa rosa will be announced July
I called a lenovo sales rep (needed to see if they would fit a Russian keyboard for my dad) and while I had them on the phone I asked about the Santa Rosa x60.
He told me July.
I am guessing it will be the exact same chassis just with Santa Rosa and the new Intel GPU.
I have to say though. I am a 2ghz Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs of ram and my x60 FLIES with Vista...works faster than XP....after I sorted all the thinkvantage stuff (yet to get presentation thing to work all the way)
Anyway...yeah there you go.

Core 2 Duo L7500 CPU at 1.6 GHz, along with 4 MB L2 cache and 800 MHz FSB releasing in July...
But... I just hope they won't get the rumour widescreen as in the T61
Well... maybe widescreen is a good thing for tablet in its portrait mode
is that sarcasm? well I certainly hope it is worth the wait. with the 800 fsb, and including robson technlogy or what are they calling it now "Turbo" memory. also, i wonder if this is where we switch to LED lcd display in thinkpads, to even further conserve battery power. I just hope lenovo doesn't blow it, hoping to pick up an x61 to begin grad school this fall. the x-series just seems like the perfect laptop to take advantage of these new technologies.Don't know if it is worth the wait, if X61s & X61 tablet has this

I read the post from Lenovo's own blog on the 'centrino pro' blog area, and the writer talked about their introducing the Santa Rosa processor at Lenovo over the coming 3 weeks (written on Apr 20).
http://www.lenovoblogs.com/insidethebox/?p=77
I would think that it would be strange for them to wait to 'introduce' the x61 until July, if they would be making a press release in the beginning of May about the Santa Rosa processor.
That would put a major slow-down in their ordering of new machines for those who know that a little extra wait will result in a big performance improvement.
It would seem to me that they would launch the models with Santa Rosa at the same time that they would announce the details of the new processor.
Does anyone know any more info on how Lenovo brings out new models regarding this sequencing of announcement vs. actual ordering of that new model?
Also, any further news about the Santa Rosa launching in general or this model????????
thanks!
