USB adapter for IDE/SATA devices
USB adapter for IDE/SATA devices
Long time I am looking for a simple equipment suitable for HDD testing and saving data on HDD/CD/DVD.
Now I found this adapter made in China:

Only 1,8´´ HDD is missing ... But some cable would help, surely.
Please - has anybody experiences with it?
Thanks for your answer.

Re: USB adapter for IDE/SATA devices
Vantec makes a similar unit which is widely available around the world....savarin wrote:Long time I am looking for a simple equipment suitable for HDD testing and saving data on HDD/CD/DVD.

... I bought one of these at Fry's in Dallas a few weeks back to use for exactly your purpose and it works very nicely, plus it includes a stand alone power supply for a drive!
I bought it as the inevitable onward march of SATA interface technology meant that I needed to replace a similar adapter that I been using for several years that did only IDE and mini-IDE drive interfaces.
Cheers,
Bill B.
Bill, I bought it yesterday and spent all evening playing with it.
Officially it is made in Germany, de facto in China, as everything.
I think it is the same equipment which you have. It is powered from USB port, I got adapter with cable too, in addition plugs for different disks and data cable for 2,5 in. disk.
And a strange cable. I could not understand its purpose. I think it is for adding another same equiment, i.e. these equiments can be joint in train.
What was interesting for me, I tried two IDE devices from my old PC, Pioneer DVD burner and Barracuda HDD with four Thinkpads.
And my T42 did not see anything ...

Did you look in the Disk Manager component of the Windows XP Computer Management Console?savarin wrote:And my T42 did not see anything ...
You may find that you need to assign a drive letter (or path) in Disk Manager before any drive attached to the device becomes visible in Windows Explorer, or My Computer.
Cheers,
Bill
