T30 - advice regarding partitions
T30 - advice regarding partitions
Would like to know are there any problems if I want to make C: & D: partition on just installed new HDD. I heard that there is a problem with it. Now I have just clean new HDD inside and original recovery CD's. So, is it wise to make partitions on T30 ?

T30 - 2366-JBG [P4-M 2.4 GHz/ATI Mobility RADEON 7500 AGP/1GB RAM / 80GB Momentus 7200rpm 8MB HDD / NEC AD-7540A DVDRW]
After R&R has been done, I have tried to resize drive C: with Partition Magic 8, but there is no way to make partition D: without moving IBM service (which should not be done)
Partitions are listed as: C: IBM Preload, IBM service, then unlocatted one which should be future D: partition. On other systems usually is this order - example: 'Dell' service, C: , unlocatted space... Please can someone help me with this?

You bet, in fact it's wise on ANY machine. I've lost count over the years of the hours saved by having my system volume separate from my user data.
For at least the last 10 years (or more) I have had the following configuration on my desktop and Thinkpads,
C: System Volume - OS and Program files only
D: ALL user data, including spreadsheets, documents, mail store, download files etc, etc.
My T30 is now used as a backup to my desktop and the partition setup mimics that of the desktop shown above.
I have removed the IBM system restore partition but have Rescue and Recovery installed on C: including the pre-desktop area.
All my system backups on the T30 are made with Rescue and Recovery to an external USB device.
I have upgraded the HDD in the T30 (it's now a 100Gb Hitachi).
For the last disk upgrade I just installed a vanilla version of Windows from scratch which allowed me to set my partition sizes. I then installed Rescue & Recovery and then used it to restore my entire system.
Many thanks! Yes, I know it is *must*. But it seems that no one on this forum know how to make partitions after IBM's R&R is installed. That's the problem
As IBM service Fat32 is located after WXP not before as usual by other similar systems... (Partition Magic order)
