Does cleaning kill the display ?! ... panic!
Today I had to clean the greasy displays of 2 new Thinkpads (XGA and SXGA+). Having read that the plastic surface is very sensitive to alcohol, I only used a soft wet microfibre cloth and cleaned (quite gently!) all fingerprints and dirt away.
The screen looked like brandnew again, but...
...when I turned them on, both displays suddenly had a blue dead pixel right in the middle!!!!! Yuck! darn!! They were absolutely flawless before.
Does anyone have any information about proper handling of those things?
I can't help, but now I look like hypnotized on that blue dot all the time... can't focus on work anymore.

I clean my screen once or twice a month. I just use water on a very soft cloth, and I treat the screen gently. I have never caused a pixel problem. Perhaps that pixel of yours was so close to error that it was going to happen anyway in due course. Gently cleaning should not cause a problem. ... JDHurst
cleaning solution
use this stuff - it is great! Plexus cleans the TP screen amazingly well, better than anything I have ever tried. An IBM rep told me to try it and I did.

Maybe somebody can help me with this: I've got a 14 inch T42. I'm very happy with the machine, but I can't get the screen clean...I've used cleaning solutions and such, but I still have oily UltraNav button and keyboard marks on my screen. Does anybody have any suggestions? I can't seem to get the UltraNav marks to go away.
I'm just hoping that I haven't damaged the screen somehow. I transport the computer to school and back every day, it's in my bag in it's own laptop compartment and I am careful to keep it "on top" of everything else. I'm going to get a Shinza Zeroshock for it soon.

Update on the pixel problem
Folks,
thank you for all the comments.
On the T40p the blue pixel disapperaed suddenly after a few days. Very strange... but I am not complaining.
On the T20 it stayed permanent, but it is on the right corner, so it does not disturb too much.
BTW: for the greasy key prints on screen. Use a radtech screen saver, which is a fine microfiber cloth that you put on the keyboard before closing.
Actually, I use a very similar cloth that I found in the shoe polishing set at my room at the Hilton once... funny.
