Does SSD speed up the Hibernation time on an X120E?

Instead of shutting it down, I usually put my X120E into Hibernation mode. If I swapped out the HD for an SSD, would that dramatically shorten the time to go into Hibernation?

Anyone have experiences to share?

I'd like to think it will as your increasing the write speed of the primary hard drive.

Laptop HDDs in my experience write between 50 and 80 mb/sec. SSDs seem higher, depending on the model some may be between 80 and 200mb/sec. As far as the chipset (memory, i/o controller and SATA bus among others) is concerned, you might be bottled up else where.

One thing I can definitely say, is you'll notice a big difference in system start up from a cold start. My T400s with an SSD vs HDD is night and day. I'm looking at an SSD for my X120 soon though.

I have an intel 320 160gb on X120e, and I must say hibernating (and also resume) takes smth around ~30sec, significantly more than booting up (W7 X64 Pro).
BUT, keep in mind that I have 8GB RAM, and that needs to be written/read every time I do this (which is not the best thing you can do to a SSD ).

In standby, the battery doesn't drain very much, and it's instant on, so in my case it's more comfortable.

On a system with 2GB (even 4GB) it should be fast enough.

I have a ssd in my t61, and even with 4gb of ram it takes longer to hibernate and come back than shutting down. what i do is leave it on standby if I am going to need it quickly, and if I won't, I shut it down. The beauty of the SSD is that booting is extremely fast, even to launch programs right after bootup. Like was mentioned above, I would reccomend against hibernating a lot because it causes a lot of write cycles to the drive, which can use up some of the life (not a lot, unless you are hibernating every 15minutes, in which case I would reccomend suspend, but it is happening).

Doing the ibernation with large quantities of ram and an SSD installed is just stupid.

The first meaning of ibernation was to shorten the availability time of the notebook, and this was surely reached wen you had a slow HDD and just 256MB of ram.

So the boot time was like 2 mins v.s. a resume from ibernation of 20 seconds.

But now, with an SSD and 4 or 8 GB of ram, the resume time way slower than the normal boot, uses a lot of precious SDD space, and contribute greatly to consume writing cycles.
