You can even daisy chain M14 displays together via USB-C connection, as long as your ThinkPad is plugged into an AC adapter, as passthrough uses too much power.

OR, your ThinkPad (when on battery power) can connect to a M14 display via USB-C port!

I got a regular USB-C one from ASUS thats 15.6" and it rocks. I don't see the points of a 14" external display, the point of it being external is so that it is BIG.

I'd love one but what standard does the usb type C use? I don't have any usb c devices but i may use one on my s10+ or note 10 if I get one.. I'll look up it's specs as well

Currently there's only one (1) USB-C standard, and it is also known as USB 3.1 (Generation 2).

Think there's be a newer USB-C (tentatively called USB 3.2) standard refresh this summer, with faster throughput, and more power juice to power devices.
It'll be backward compatible with the USB-C (aka USB 3.1 (Generation 2)).

Is the USB-C naming convention very confusing?
I think it is very confusing, named by engineers, and not by marketing folks.

I ask because usb c is just a connection type and has been seen with usb 2.0, usb 3.0, usb 3.1, thunderbolt 3, and Display port

Think I'll wait for ThinkPad to launch its ThinkVision 15" (M15??) before I'll make a jump for this...
(Note: ThinkPad did not hint of this 15" one yet; the M14 with 14" has not even been launched yet as of this writing).
I especially like M14 ability to daisy chain multiple USB-C displays, and its adjustable stand!
But M14 needs better LCD screen protection; it's current protection is more of a scratch resistant protection only.

Just checked the ASUS USB-C portable LCD monitor, it's quite slick, and I quite like its iPad-like cover/protection (which I like), which doubles as a fixed angel LCD stand (which I don't like, cannot adjust its angle). Moreover, ASUS USB-C forum is a horror show; many complaints about users cannot buy replacement ASUS USB-C cable which became damaged/lost during its very short use. Apparently this ASUS one almost seem to insist on using only the ASUS USSB-C cable that came with the purchase. None of the after-market USB-C cables don't seem to work. This sounds like a recipe for an eventual user disaster!

For this easy-to-break ASUS USB-C cable, apparently this contains Thunderbolt 3 support.

Hence when user tries to buy replacement cable, one *must* get the USB-C cable *with* Thunderbolt 3 support.

This is where things get messy. Have you ever seen a store selling USB-C cable and advertise that it supports Thunderbolt 3 also?

Doubt it given USB-C can supply voltage and current well beyond what normal USB can do.

You would be surprised. I commute by Amtrak daily and several people bring an extra display. I’ve even seen someone using 3 laptops.

Hi - New to the forum here, but need some of your wonderful advice!

I have a X1 Carbon thinkpad and 2 m14 think visions. I can't seem to figure out how to daisy chain these three devices together (1x laptop, 2x m14 monitors). Can you offer any advice? I plug them all in (laptop to m14, m14 to 2nd m14). Only one monitor will work. If i plug the 2nd m14 directly into the computer (unplug from outlet), then i get one duplicate monitor. Any way to daisy chain and extend display across all three screens?
