T60 battery source?
T60 battery source?
Hi guy,
Just joined the forum, and just joined the thinkpad community! A few months ago I got myself a t430. But just last week a deal bamy by on a t601, and I couldn't pass it up,
Anyway, I'm now in the market for a 9Cell battery and 8gbs of ram. Anyone have any good sources for these parts? Or am I SOL?

Re: T60 battery source?
I would say the same, try the Marketplace here first, then eBay. I got lucky on eBay a couple of years ago with two genuine 9 cell batteries. One of them was almost full capacity, the other was somewhat less (maybe like 85% of original capacity, even though that was supposed to be brand new too). I honestly don't know if they were lightly used batteries, and just had been re-programmed somehow, so they didn't show previous usage stats, or indeed were new old stock batteries, but the run times were great, so I was happy. Especially after trying out several third party batteries beforehand with less than stellar results.pigroasts wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 2:23 amHi guy,

One advice: don't fell for those knock off batteries that advertise A++ quality cells, and cost like £15 for a 9 cell battery. Their capacity is absolutely abysmal, I had tried several in the past. Or at least be aware that you will get what you pay for, don't even pay attention to the advertised capacities in those listings, they are not even close to what you will be getting. Also the Ultrabay batteries I had come across through eBay had significant capacity losses, even the supposedly new ones.
The sad truth is that finding batteries in good shape is getting really difficult for these old machines.

How's your experience guys with GreenCell batteries?
I quite like KingSener but they don't make any for T60..
Hat tip to @pigroasts, we certainly spoke before!

Re: T60 battery source?
I have to admit I have never tried any of the branded third party batteries, I always went for the cheap no-name ones. Maybe that's the cause of my bad experiences with them? I remember seeing those GreenCell batteries on eBay, but they cost quite a bit more than the cheap ones, and I thought at that price point I will rather pay just a little more, and buy a genuine Lenovo one. So I am also interested if someone has experience with these "middle of the road/ price" battery manufacturers like GreenCell.

I'll keep my eye out on ebay, but not holding out much hope. I was thinking about the ultrabay batteries, but I dunno, they seem pricey for the capacity.zoltan87 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 01, 2020 3:48 pmI would say the same, try the Marketplace here first, then eBay. Re: T60 battery source?
What's a slightly expensive for what it is price for a t60 battery?
I have two, one that I switched from a t500 laptop that I bought, used for awhile, but hated because I didn't like windows 7.
So I have a really good T500 battery, and a somewhat good t60 original battery.
They never get any use except for the bi annual charging check where I make sure that the charge is somewhere in the 50% capacity.

Re: T60 battery source?
Whatta discussion here!
I have no idea guys how bad is the genuine battery market in the US, but there is absolutely no problemo sourcing them in Europe. I have a couple of great 6-cell and 9 cell batteries as well as NOS 6-cell and ultrabay batts.
Ultrabay batteries gathered a lots of negative opinions for some reason - they are much better under W10 (as lenovo vantage can put tresholds on them). Not to mention two of them I'm using every day (T61p and T430s) both hold 100% charge after 1,5years of use.
T60 and T500 share the battery (except UB).
I was selling mine batts for the likes of $22-28 each, including 9-cell and UB, but that was a year or so ago

that is most interesting; perhaps I would even be interested to see the relevant screenshot from W10 with those settings. When you're saying "can put thresholds" - do you mean that these are the usual start/stop charging thresholds? Same as we can put on any normal battery?
Or is a T61 under W10 able to switch from Ultrabay to normal battery before ultrabay reaches 0%?

I don't remember now. AFAIR it switches to main battery after dropping to 5%. I need to steal my wifes' T430s for a second to check that

Re: T60 battery source?
I am almost certain you can put separate charging start\stop tresholds on the main and ultrabay batteries in Win 8.1 too (in the lenovo software). But there is no way to change up the discharge order for the batteries, the Ultrabay battery gets drained first always. One solution to this (though not very elegant) is you can pop out the ultrabay eject lever of the laptop, so the Ultrabay battery gets disengaged (you don't have to physically remove the battery). So the main battery will be used. Then when you feel like it, you just push the lever back, the Ultrabay battery gets detected, and the laptop will start running on that. It's definitely not ideal, as it needs your input, and if you move around you could end up breaking down the small plastic lever, but still better than having no control at all. It's a mistery why Lenovo never implemented a proper option for this operation in software (I know you can do this on Dell business laptops from the same era).atagunov wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 11:24 amHi Michal, wujstefan wrote: ↑Fri Jul 17, 2020 3:55 amUltrabay batteries gathered a lots of negative opinions for some reason - they are much better under W10 (as lenovo vantage can put tresholds on them). Re: T60 battery source?
Haven't tried any of the branded third party batteries yet. I have a couple of genuine 9 cell batteries that I use when I am on the go. I think when time will come to getting new batteries, I will try to re-cell them. That way I will know that they have good high capacity cells. But I will need to read up on that process, as I know it's quite tricky to do that without killing the battery controller (it senses if the voltage drops below a certain threshold).cultofbyron wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 4:06 amDid you (or anyone else for that matter!) have any joy with Greencell?
