His reelection bid is faring badly so far, so he wants/needs to go to those rallies to shore up support from his fanatics. Using a fake COVID diagnosis just to evade Biden is not going to help him any, so IMO there's little doubt that he's COVID-positive.

The amusing part is that he previously said that he's been taking hydroxychloroquine as a prophylactic, but now that he's positive it only proves that the drug is useless for that purpose.

One really doesn't need to live near their workplace. I've proven that over the past 15 years, and so have many others.

An "ideal place" has more to do with one's core values - presuming that they have them in the first place - and less with geographic location.

NYC has been trashed in more ways than one and it will take an awful lot for it to come back. I've been away for six months and found it beyond depressing when I returned to work.

What other big cities look like I have no clue, but would venture a guess that quite a few of them have taken a serious beating from the madness that we've been exposed to.

shawross would know that a place like australia is basically centered about half a dozen major city centres and really you can literally drive no more than 200 miles in any direction and have unsealed roads and 'serenity' if that's what you're after.

The fact is no one cares and regional towns over here and if you want to 'escape' then you can do this given enough resources.

Lets be clear, like many western society theres mass urbanisation but outside of that theres stagnation. There's prime opportunity for people to opt out if you have the will and resources and that's the sticking point.

I am not starting a family but my children are and I am concerned where we are going as a society . By a society I do mean where we live but also in a global perspective.

Politics IMHO is just a stage managed drama but ostensibly my choice is for less government control and meddling. Especially since 911 and now because of covid I am not getting what I want from governments.

For those who like their freedom, they are seeing it getting whittled away. Freedom is traveling anywhere you want without going through the third degree. Having opinions that challenge governments and being able to freely articulate those views without prejudice. Freedom to have empathy for countries that my government opposes. Freedom is being able to say no to vaccinations and the other controls that are coming our way.

Really I don't want to go off grid or opt out of society. I am retired but I have built my life around society. Thankfully what has happened this year hasn't substantially impacted my position but I am concerned for the impacts it's having on society.

Retreating to country towns and reconnecting to nature is a luxury and the majority can't realistically just opt out. I can't help the feeling that we are all inmates of some asylum or penitentiary that oligarchs are controlling.
Trump is just an actor on the stage of this asylum and I would encourage people to look past just what is playing out on the stage.

A voice from the past... most of you may remember me, for some others this will be a first introduction.

So I know I'm coming into this conversation late but I feel I have to get this off my chest. Note: all of the following is my personal opinion. You can flame me for all it's worth, but if you want to change my mind or convince me I'm wrong, better supply factual information and not "alternative" ones.

First some background.... I'll be 64 in November. I'm a native Californian. Lived in the Bay Area all my life, except for a summer I spent in Chicago when I was about 12. I was a memory test engineer (laid off Sept. 2019 from Samsung) for over 40 years and before that for several years, a FORTRAN programmer. I also never bothered to vote in any election. I thought it really didn't make any difference. I was extremely apolitical. I was satisfied to simply go with the flow. The country had had some good presidents and some bad but we always seemed to prosper, grow and lead the free world. In 2016 and onward, that changed. I registered to vote for the first time in my life when I saw who the Republicans had nominated.

Now, to the point at hand. As soon as I heard that 45 said he got the virus my immediate thought was, "He's lying". This was wholly based upon previous history of what has come out of his mouth, and conversely, what he has avoided saying. Or what has been typed by his hand into the Twitterverse. I thought it was part of a master plan to say you got it, and then say you're cured later on. Either by taking some drugs or maybe because COVID isn't all that menacing. And to use it as an excuse for some thing or event or result later on. Now with the reports that some of the WH staff and others in 45's orbit are also infected, well, maybe I was wrong. Maybe he does/did have it. It seems certain that somebody infected all these people and I'm sure that more will turn up in the near future with further testing. The spread is mostly due to the lackadaisical enforcement of masks and social distancing that seems pervasive in his staff and party.

However, the actual truth of him being infected or not being infected doesn't really matter. It still doesn't change my belief that he should join Jimmy Carter and George H.W. Bush and become the newest member of the one term presidency club. This is for the benefit of this country and democracy as a whole. No matter the outcome in November, there's going to be a vocal component that will not be satisfied with the result. I just hope it remains vocal and doesn't turn physical.

It has been "physical" for the past few months, and it's fairly obvious that the violence won't stop anytime soon, regardless of the election results. It is likely to get worse, if anything.

What I meant to say was, "I hope that it will not escalate the physical violence more than what has already happened". It's bad enough you have isolated incidents where someone is armed, with a firearm usually, but includes using a vehicle, and injures/kills people. That has to stop, but unfortunately, as you said, it will probably get worse before it gets better. And I'm not going to get into that can of worms (i.e., gun control) within the confines in this discussion.

Maybe. But the violence that we've seen over the past few months - aka "mostly peaceful protests" - is likely to escalate to the Nth degree if Trump wins.
