How to keep palmrest stickers from falling off

#1 Post by UMPC2024 » Tue Oct 06, 2020 9:24 pm

Some people may just take these off because they prefer the clean look, but I actually like the stickers on the palmrest to keep it looking like the day it came from the factory.

Is there anyway to keep the stickers from falling off? So far I've tried a glue stick but eventually they start sliding away.

Mine aren't doing too bad for the most part. Some fare better than others. Some don't get unglued, but just wear out. Like certain Centrino/Windows XP stickers. In any case, it is possible to get replacement stickers for most kinds.

There are lots of alternative stickers to put on, I'd suggest something themed on your favourite anime %)

Several sellers on e-Bay offer most any sticker you can imagine for nearly any computer past or present.

So many responses and so many people to respond to.

Yeah I dock my T430, but use the T420 on battery. Gotta keep the batteries rotated.

kfzhu1229
Thought about it. Dropped my T430 back in 2015 so a corner is missing. Still thinking about it. At some point I'm looking at the newer P5* series and the T430 is basically docked all the time. The other ones are doing alright, but wanted to ask as a preventative measure to keep the stickers on.

atagunov
Got some stickers on my lid to keep wear off the rubber coating. Back in the school days I used to just put it into my bag (not one of the newer ones with a dedicated laptop sleeve either) and the inside fabric started wearing away the rubber. No anime though, just some NASA ones like "critical space item, handle with care". That was mainly a personal joke based on how much I beat on my T430 as a daily driver.

dr_st/MikalE
I think I've got a stash of Windows Vista ones somewhere. Maybe I'll just slap those on as another personal joke.

You can also get nice stickers of e.g. a lovely little penguin.
Rip the old stickers off and put the new sticker there, to cover the blemishes.

An old friend was obsessed with this. He used to hunt 2nd hand parts specificly for stickers to be transfered to his own laptops :D , so much so that he was only happy with the units with pristine microsoft/manufacturer stickers, clean units meticulously and slap recoveries to turn them back to original factory units. What we later learned was that he turned this to a con business of selling 2-3 years old units as out of box brand new/unused to unsuspected international buyers. All second hand units looking like brand new. Multiple manufacturers , different models. As everyone said , you can get most if not all stickers off the net or bay, you can bulk order a strip of empty 100 COA stips from aliexpress, upload your own design to professional printing websites, or you can scan high res images of stickers , upload them to be printed as original brand new hologram stickers of microsoft. There was even a talk of a guy on ebay buying empty Microsoft COA sticker rolls (100 prieces) from aliexpress and printing random product keys pulled of the internet with a laser printer , selling them off ebay in a 1hr falsh sale before closing shop. :D

I like them. When I loaded Win 10 Pro to my T520 I bought a Win 10 sticker from e-Bay. When I rolled it back to Win 7 Pro, I bought a new Win 7 sticker for it.

Yeah I'm working on a Linux transition. Got a Bunsen Labs setup on my T60. Funnily enough I had to remove the hard drive to get the cover off onto another computer. Forgot about it, tried to reuse it for something else and ended up booting while in my T430 caddy. Everything booted up fine, which was surprising to me.

Well, that is a pretty detailed operation. I just like to keep my things nice in general* and enjoy the search. Not into being a con.

*The exception happens to be the T430 for some reason. Also happened to be the one and only ThinkPad I've bought directly from Lenovo as a CTO. Definitely a daily driver/beater and has sentimental value for all the things it's been through with me for the past 7 years and going.

Whatever you like. I just replaced the Fridigaire decal on my AC compressor and the Keep you GM car All GM sticker on the air cleaner housing. Now I have to find the radiator coolant level decal which must have been blown off when they re-cored my tanks. Original 52 year old DELCO radiator tanks. The Align Stripes decal is starting to look worn too.

I'm also on https://www.cadillacforums.com/ Mostly in the CTS, classic Cadillac and RWD forums. Again, same userid.

I also have an original IBM AT square brushed aluminum sticker on my brand x tower box (that has an old Asus main board) I haven't turned that on in years, it's mainly a phone stand. I think I have more of these stashed somewhere around here.

Try Year One for any GM decals you need. They are not Cadillac specific, but GM used pretty much the same decals on all marks.

One of my Gran Sports back in the 80's. This was a '71 GSX:

I like to keep the original stickers in their original places. If they happen to slide and lose their adhesive strength by time, i use my razor knife to peel them without damaging and clean of the old adhesive below the stickers with isoprophyl alchocol dampened on a soft cloth. Once the old adhesive is cleaned from the sticker and the palmrest,

I use a thin layer of uhu adhesive spreaded below the sticker. That keeps it in its place for a good amount of time.

That's the same sticker I just replaced! Mine was getting all grungy and cracked. On the Cadillac 472 it's on the other side because the snorkel is right where your sticker is.

That was one of a set I bought during the restoration of the above GSX.

It came with the underhood decals, jacking instructions for under the deck lid, and several others. Oh, and the blue build coded sticker that goes in the driver's side door well. That's the one that is typed with the information, applied to the door well, and then a clear sticker is placed over the blue sticker.

I also had a copy of an original Buick window sticker with all options listed with prices on the passenger side window.

I remember that blue sticker from my 1970 Fleetwood Brougham. I don't think they had those back in 1968. There was a silver one but no date of mfr. Lots of regulation changes every year back then. I got a whole set of restoration decals when I have my 1968 DVC overhauled back in 2005, some are still on the car, but some others have been blown off by overzealous pressure washers and other had the part replaced (again).

There were also blue with silver edge metal plates about 2" square that were riveted to the doors. I had the shop drill those out and re-rivet them when the car was painted. Looks nice.

I'll try to get a good engine pic and resize it small enough not to blow up the thread.
