I know that some of you out there are not going to believe this story, since it originates from the NY Times, but here goes:

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/202 ... break.html
I fail to understand what the big deal is, though. The virus has a 99%+ survival rate for individuals with no serious pre-existing conditions. Yes, I've personally known several people who have sadly passed away from it and a few dozen who had it and are still with us. I, for one, likely wouldn't survive getting it due to the aforementioned pre-existing conditions and am therefore careful - not paranoid - in my own daily dealings with people as much as possible, but the whole thing has been utterly overblown from day 1 and remains to be so. IMO, that is.
Yeah this is partly my attitude too but we have zero cases zero infectons zero deaths here...

However on avg. 90% of any of us have prexisting conditions that will likely end in death.

And its a fine attitude to have as long as youre not one of the 250,000 people dead.

Further in isolation if it was just me I wouldnt worry that much but I have a wife who is significantly younger and shouldnt have to put up with this and young kids. And it affects my workplace.

Also people who do come out of this have 1 in 5 chance of mental illness and you get random stuff like losing your sense of taste smell and even kidney liver damage.

So as long as you're not infected and not dead then it doesnt matter... I mean its not even a blip on this side of the world.

btw. it seems a significant number of secret service personnel have it. My workplace actually gives a darn and we have literally single digit infections to date in a company with hundreds of staff.

The loss of sense of taste and smell is temporary. Mental illness, though, I have to wonder... It sure would explain all the anarchists protesting around the globe.

So Tony is still hiding - somewhere, perhaps Oz or NZ, Neither of which has zero cases and zero deaths.

And no you don't have a 1 in 5 probability of developing mental illness. Where did that BS come from??

"However on avg. 90% of any of us have prexisting conditions that will likely end in death." Whatcondition is that?

I do know that 100 % of all of us have a preexisting condition that ends in death. But that's life. Really, living causes death to 100% of us what are you trying to say???

You need 'pre existing conditions' explained... to an American.... call your medical insurance company to find out more.

Its a foreign concept here since pre existing conditions are covered universally here.

You are the one who said it:

"However on avg. 90% of any of us have prexisting conditions that will likely end in death."

I was just having a little fun at your expense. What's the preexisting condition that all of us have that ends in death? LIFE! :P

And I do know all about the term "preexisting conditions" That is the ONLY thing in the (un)affordable care act that needs to remain intact. And it probably will. Some of the other stupid measures that outlaw certain types of plans that many younger folks want need to be done away with.

Only 6% are deaths with NO other comorbidity factors.

NO person here under 20 has died that didn't have one or more preexisting comorbidity factor.

I'm out ALL the time: 400 car car shows with the 1968 DVC, 99+% of the shopping and All of the maintenance tasks that require travel. I even walk the dog, which as I understand, some areas of Aus are forbidden ?!?!? Now that's stooooooooopid.

I must be one of the 40-60% of the population who have high cross T cell immunity. God knows that I have had enough military required vaccinations including for anthrax and malaria.

A lot of my family is health care workers. I think if we look into the context of the cost this has on health care workers both monetarily and in lives lost then its another issue.

This has overloaded health systems and its killed a lot of professionals... here it takes 4yrs to be a nurse, 6-8 to be a doctor. Even a scale of what it costs society to train these people this is a heavy burden to pay.

I personally think its quite selfish to look thru the lens of "I'm alright jack..."

Over here it has killed a lot of older folks and those in nursing homes retirement villages.

I do feel lucky that we have essentially got this down to zero in the last few weeks and months and the people in charge at a state level here arent really even that professional about it. The state leader here hasnt bothered to isolate given exposure.

Add Jenna Ellis to the list of people around Trump who tested positive for C-19.

She's still young so I'm fairly certain that she'll be just fine.

The problem with this is that you dont have an mechanism to punish China.

Its counterproductive to bleat about the "Chicom Virus" when thats all you can do.... like how people rally around unborn babies.

All the while some countries have relaxed all restrictions because their worst state has had weeks of no deaths and no infections and other places have 3,000 a day....

So what are we supposed to do about a country that has nukes and pays 33% of our GDP?

The only thing they respect and fear is strength. They are just like the stalinists, maoists,Nazis and italian facists, mullahs, etc, et al before them. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see that, but if you have blinders on or biases in action, you won't realize it or you'll ignore it. You have to use the facets of DIME, hopefully without the M. You sanction their a$$es off, with ALL western nations joining in, plus Japan and many others. And wean yourselves off cheap chinese goods.

President trump has been the only president on over 20years to stand up to communism and they both feared and hated it, but they respected, grudgingly, and worked to helped create the current mess we are in. Make no doubt about that.

Gov of PA now has it. Fitting.

Wrong. For China, Trump was pretty much a useful idiot. He "stood up" to China with ineffective tariffs that mostly just hurt American farmers and had no further effect. On the other hand, Trump left the TPP treaty, leaving the Pacific rim in the hands of China - with RCEP in effect now, he handed China the control of the Asian economies.

With Trump's flailing around in social media, China also used the distraction to build up influence elsewhere (build up military bases in Africa, deepen economic ties with Eastern Europe and Central Asia, cripple Hong-Kong's political freedom).

The most effective thing Trump has done against China was to slow down Huawei. But that was only an effective delay - and has spurred China on to gain complete technological independence. The US will not have the means to influence China this way in the future.

Obama was already in the process to tackle China, but smartly by trying to establish TPP as an economical counterweight. Trump took the suspicions and fears about China (which are justified) and turned them into useless rage.

As for the Coronavirus: No Western nation was hit worse than the USA, thanks to Trump's mismanagement and ineptitude. This is something you simply can not ignore or justify by spreading baseless conspiracies about China having created this virus (which they didn't).

^^ you just don't get it. He got the chinese to the table which nobody has done for dozens of years. If the EU had been even a LITTLE bit helpful, we would have ALL been much better off.

If you think you grandstanders in the EU can do better., the DO SOMETHING. You haven't done ANYTHING about them for the past 20-30 years.

Those bases in Africa, you're close to them than we are. dod you do anything about it? NO.

What has the EU done in support of HK??? NOTHING.

I'm not going to even get started on the strategist timing of this virus release which came from china.....
