#1 Post by PRAGUEGUY » Fri Nov 18, 2022 8:35 am

I am not entirely sure which type of M.2 i should buy...the spec sheet states the following about the SSD disk
Storage One of the following, configurable by model:
• M.2 SSD / SATA 6.0Gb/s
• M.2 SSD / PCIe NVMe, PCIe 3.0 x 4, 32Gb/s

I opened the laptop, and the model no of the memory is VLW2560 it looks like a samsung

Google returned the following about the memory
MZ-VLW2560 Samsung PM961 Series 256GB TLC PCI Express 3.0 x4 NVMe M.2 2280 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Mfg Part No: MZ-VLW2560
so I booked the following memory in the shop
PLEASE WILL THE BELOW SSD CHIP WORK IN THIS MACHINE
THE MACHINE TYPE IS 20L8-S3LR00...cannot find the detailed specs...
i am not sure if the laptop has SATA or PCIE interface for the ssd...thanks

The T480 has a few different options.

There is a 2.5" SATA drive bay for traditional 2.5" form factor SATA-III SSDs.
There is 2.5" caddy that allows a 2280 NVME SSD to be installed and connected in place of the SATA SSD (with the appropriate cable). If you have a 2280 SSD in there it is the NVME version, not the SATA version.
There is also a 2242 M.2 slot that can accept a second SSD.

I would avoid TLC based NAND - go with MLC or 3D-NAND if you can find it. They will have better longevity. Aside from that it should work as the primary NVME drive.
