It's a Thinkpad that was only available to the Japanese (and maybe the British market).
I have a TP353E which was also available in Japan....Really cool 166mhz TP with 80MB of RAM...(with a special memory adapter and a soldered jumper cable). Reminds me of a cut down version (very small thinkpad about 6inchesX8inches and 1/5 inches thick) of a TP-380, but without CD or Floppy. With adapter I can get a floppy to run on it and have to network it for larger file transfers. Use it with a wireless card
Here, you can see the Thinkpad you asked about and the one I own:

The one in the back is a giant lappy. The background one, that's a 12" screen. I don't see how IBM would have managed to sell any of those things except maybe to a few corporate network and IT departments because even back in it's day, the system specs did little to compensate for the ginormous size and footprint. After seeing that computer, I'm never going to call the G-series thick again. However, I am pretty sure a computer of that sort would make for a much interesting conversation piece.

I think what AlphaKilo470 meant to say was: "The foreground one, that's a 12" screen."AlphaKilo470 wrote:The one in the back is a giant lappy. The background one, that's a 12" screen.
The way I am reading the post from MadeInJapan, he has the TP353E, which is 6" X 8" X 1/5" (1/5?) thick, and is pictured in the forground of the link he posted: http://www.aichi.to/~thinkpad/ibm5535-z ... 535_14.jpg
The way I am reading AlphaKilo470, the one pictured in the foreground has a 12" screen.
Well, the lappy pictured in the foreground can't have a 12" screen and measure 6" X 8". So which one am I seeing pictured in the foreground?

Nope, I am reffering to the backgorund one, the big computer that the 535 is sitting on. I threw out that tidbit of information to help give a reference of size. If memory serves me right, that's a 10" screen on the 535. Also, screen measurements are diaganol.

I didn't say 12" makes for a giant laptop. I gave the 12" as a reference mark. You know the screen is 12" and you can see all the plastic around it, and from there, combining that basic math with what's seen in the picture, you get a beter idea of size.
